The six-month intensive Plus Eight Accelerator program is coming to an end on September 19th at Demo Night, where our seven teams will pitch their businesses  to investors, mentors, media, and the startup community. This year’s program received applications from all over the world with the successful teams getting access to over $400k of seed funding, six months of mentoring from industry professionals, and access to our coworking spaces, Riff and FLUX to help support their growth.

The 2018 Plus Eight Cohort

Udrew, a platform for managing custom building projects to receive instant council approval.

Kin Childcare, an app facilitating the hiring of reliable, trustworthy and available carers‚ even at the last minute, from scheduling to payment.

Mureus, a modular art startup that creates customisable magnetic modular art for large spaces.

Airguides (formally Hopolla), a platform connecting travellers with influencers, to help guide their holidays and connect them to people in the same destination.

SpacetoCo, an online marketplace for individuals to easily list their space for the general community and handle locational searches, availability, two-way reviews and payments.

Kooda, is a crowdsourced organic-waste collection service using technology to make it clean, easy and efficient for every kitchen to divert food-scraps from landfill or burning.

Lily and Fox, who have developed an alternative to nail polish that takes advantage of materials and chemical technologies and creates no drying time, no mess and can support very complex coatings.

"What a whirlwind 6 months! We're sad it's over, but Plus Eight has helped us put a rocket under our startup." says Bibi Jellema, Co-founder airguides.com

With the 2018 program coming to a close, it’s been a jam-packed journey for the companies selected. From a trip to Silicon Valley to take in wisdom from the likes of Growth Hacker’s Sean Ellis, Jindou Lee of HappyCo, Kate Taylor and Nicola Wyne of Dropbox, to an east-coast funding run seeing SpacetoCo take in investor commitments on Shark Tank, the teams have flourished under the watchful eye of resident EIR Tim Brewer as they worked their way through an intensive mentoring schedule that Udrew’s Tom Young referred to as “an MBA on steroids”. With Demo Night on the horizon, marking the end of their muru-D journey, the best is yet to come.

In preparation for their launch into life after Plus Eight the teams have been working hard “hustling, pivoting, and scaling their businesses” says Kate Kirwin, Spacecubed’s Programs Coordinator.

Teams from the 2017 cohort have gone onto big things. Neurotechnology startup, Humm, are currently in San Francisco having secured Silicon Valley-based funding. When asked how hard it would have been to start Humm without Plus Eight, CEO & Co-founder Iain McIntyre said "Somewhere between impossible and improbable."  Other successes have seen QuizJam sign a partnership with Canadian tech company Bravio.

Demo Night is your exclusive opportunity to get a front seat to see some of Perth’s best startups pitch, meet the founders, and network with over 150 key members of the Perth startup scene.
