Perth{Web}Girls: Bridging the Gender Gap in Tech

Spacecubed aims to address this issue by hosting a free bi-annual event Perth{Web}Girls (PWG), to encourage female participants to learn how to code with no experience necessary. The last event hosted at FLUX at the end of March received registrations reaching over capacity, so we were thrilled to see the number of members interested in getting into the tech field. Thanks to the sponsors and suppliers BHP, Robert Walters, RAC, Thoughtworks, The Python Software Foundation, Lara Dwyer of The Wise Tribe Movement, and Cocoa + Spice we were able to host this incredible opportunity and allow more than 100 females to come together to learn how to code.

"Spacecubed has been running PWG in Perth for 2 years now, we are overwhelmed by the support and interest from the Perth community. This event had over 180 applications for women who are interesting in upskilling and reskilling in coding. We were really excited to see our first participant come full circle, from attending an event as a beginner, going through a 3-month coding boot camp and internship, to employment, and returning this year as a PWG mentor. For me, this is such a heartwarming story, and I'm really excited to see more women in the industry." says Kate Kirwin, organiser of the last PWG event.

The event followed with an abundance of survey responses from attendees which highlighted the need for continued learning and mentorship.

So what's next?
