Get to know Spacecubed member, Penny Huynh, CEO of JKR Training
JKR Training offers a variety of courses targeted towards employers training their staff and is the leader in the VET industry. For NSW Small Business Month, we asked Spacecubed member Penny, to share her insights into being a business owner and the challenges she overcame to get there.
Penny Huynh describes purchasing an existing Registered Training Organisation from a long time business acquaintance as “quite the adventure.”
“Our business journey began with a handshake, a shared vision, and the legacy of an RTO that had an outstanding record in the VET industry,” she shared.
“The early days felt like we were on a wild roller coaster ride,” admitted Penny. Navigating business regulations, diving in on what worked previously and what didn’t, and creating new processes was all a case of trial and error. “Oh, and don't even get us started on navigating the world of accounting software!” Penny added.
We asked Penny what sets JKR Training apart from competitors and she put it down to the team’s dedication to industry relevance and delivering quality over quantity. “We collaborate closely with businesses to ensure our training programs meet current industry standards and workplace needs.”
Penny also added “practical skills and real-world experience are the keys to unlocking our learners' potential for epic career success!”
JKR Training is based at the Western Sydney Startup Hub, powered by Spacecubed. This collaborative space allows small businesses to be a part of something bigger, making invaluable connections.
We asked Penny what she enjoys about being a part of our community and she told us how the members are “awesome” and that she is “grateful of the support Spacecubed has given us from the very start.”
“It has provided us with a vibrant community of like-minded entrepreneurs, access to resources, and a supportive environment to foster growth and innovation,” she continued.
Small businesses have countless opportunities for expansion, and we asked Penny where she sees her business in 5 years time.
Penny replied, “we envision a broader range of programs and partnerships that empower learners to thrive in an ever-evolving job market.” JKR Training also aspires to be a leading force in the VET industry, and expand its reach nationally and internationally.
Penny had some final advice for aspiring entrepreneurs in the VET industry to stay laser-focused on the quality of programs. “Focus on listening to your learners and industry partners, adapt to changes, and embrace technology to enhance education.”
“Surround yourself with a supportive network, like Spacecubed, and always be open to learning and innovation,” Penny concluded.
