Phoebe Howie and Glen Hutchinson, the founders behind Ecotrilogy are both passionate and committed to contributing to a greater cause. By working with individuals in Taiwan, they have developed a bamboo material to serve as an alternate for disposable plastic.

Drinking straws were their first product, with cutlery and coffee cup lids on their way, as well as wine bottles and disposable medical items coming next on the list. “Ecotrilogy began as a chance discussion with our tech agent in China. We fell in love with the possibilities to share better choices for our planet and off we went. Our opportunity awareness radar was working perfectly,” Glen shared in a recent discussion with our Community Team.

Every day in Australia approximately 10 million plastic straws are used for 15 - 30 minutes and end up in our oceans, harming marine life, which is why Glen and Phoebe are so passionate about working to replace single-use plastics with single-use bamboo products, making our planet more sustainable.

When asked why they applied for our Intensify Scholarship, and what they love about the community, Glen simply replied, “This feels like our tribe. I believe if you stand in a crowd of crazy people just like yourself you are less likely to feel different.”

One of my favourite success stories was shredding our very first straw with a stick blender before sprinkling it on our garden. It felt like we had made an immediate difference. It was a moment I will never forget. This was the moment Ecotrilogy rose from the pages of a business plan to be an emotional meaningful journey as an entrepreneur.” he shared.

So, if you’re wondering what’s next for the team at Ecotrilogy? You can watch their startup journey continue to grow in 2020 as they head to the USA, develop the next-gen Ecotrilogy products, set up their own manufacturing in Malaysia, and of course, sell more products.
