1. How did your startup/business journey begin?

My startup journey began in March 2019, when 12 Hats Media Lab started on the NEIS program. I started my business after I had completed two masters degrees in Marketing at Curtin University, and got sick of the job market. With a unique set of skills that I possess, I chose to set up my own shop.

For the uninitiated, the meaning of 12 Hats Media Lab is the number of roles I play when someone outsources their social media to me, the inspiration from which came to me in the shower one night.

2. What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently going through a pivot with regards to the focus of the business, from a purely social media agency into a content marketing and media company and have been in this process for the last 6 months. By creating Audio and Video content that can be repurposed throughout other digital media such as bots, websites, blogs and social media. This has come about due to the constant changes to the rules and algorithms from the social media giants, and I felt there is the need for small businesses to control their own media space, so they are not at the mercy of big tech.

I am also placing the emphasis on user education, by running a series of workshops on chatbots and podcasts. Creating a Udemy course for people who want to start their own podcast, and creating a separate blog/YouTube channel where I can share my knowledge.

3. What do you love about being a part of the Spacecubed community?

For starters the podcast studio (Media Room), it really was a game-changer for me, and I love coming in once or twice a month to record. Also having access to a network of some of the best marketing and digital freelance talent in Perth, where I can potentially line up some kick-ass projects.

4. Can you share with us one of your favourite success stories?

Although I have only recorded one season and started in October, my agency’s in-house podcast 12 Hats Radio has a small but growing audience, not just here in Perth but overseas as well. I have had people come up to me and tell me how much they love my show.

I am also passionate about chatbots and have taken a roadshow throughout the South West late last year with a seminar and live bot demo, preaching the benefits to fellow small business owners of chatbot marketing on Facebook Messenger.

5. What do you hope to achieve in 2020?

Recording audio content is my happy space! And what I really want to achieve in 2020 is to create a podcast/vlogging network that utilises the facilities here at Spacecubed. For each show on the network, the aim is for 12 Hats Media Lab to take control of all of the back end work of the podcast, with production, editing, marketing and distribution and letting the client(s) focus on recording. Ultimately I would love to see my company, go one step further and set up Internet Radio Stations and would love to set up at least one by the end of the year.

I would also love to establish myself as a content marketing guru, by running regular workshops and masterclasses for other Spacecubed community members.
