In an ever-evolving landscape, the Early Childhood Education and Care sector faces a myriad of challenges. From workforce shortages to systemic inefficiencies, the need for innovative solutions has never been more pressing. Spacecubed member Cheyanne Carter is paving the way for transformative change in this space through Divergent Education which is dedicated to improving the ECEC sector through technology-driven solutions.

We sat down with Cheyanne Carter to discover more about her business journey that began in 2023 providing support services to the sector. “I quickly realised the impacts were macro, and there was potential to drive much greater change,” she shared.

In 2024, Cheyanne dedicated herself to expanding her technology capabilities which inspired her to pivot and focus on creating innovative, technology-driven solutions that address systemic issues in the ECEC sector.

Our products, EduBuddy and QIPd, are designed to empower educators, improve outcomes for children, and foster a sustainable workforce,” shared Cheyanne.

By blending years of experience in ECEC, Operations and Leadership with a commitment to technology and innovation, Cheyanne has built a company that strives to create long-term, meaningful change.

Building a business from the ground up can be challenging, but having the right environment and support system is crucial for success so we asked Cheyanne her thoughts on working from the Western Sydney Startup Hub and she shared the following.

“Being surrounded by like-minded individuals and having access to such a vibrant network of mentors, advisors, and peers has been invaluable. I’ve particularly appreciated the collaborative spirit and the opportunities to exchange ideas and insights with others who are passionate about making an impact.”

When the opportunity presented itself to apply for the Plus Eight Pre-Accelerator program at the Western Sydney Startup Hub, Cheyanne saw it as the perfect chance to accelerate the development of her app, EduBuddy.

“The mentorship, workshops, and structured approach helped me refine my business model and strategy while connecting me with a community of successful founders and industry experts. The program also gave me the confidence and tools to deliver my mission effectively during the competition,” Cheyanne reflected.

Cheyanne Carter was crowned the well-deserving winner at Pitch Night by the judges, who recognised the business’s potential to improve the Early Childhood and Education sector and she shared the following with us.

“It was an incredibly surreal and rewarding moment! Winning first place affirmed the value of the solutions we’re creating at Divergent Education and the impact they have on the Early Childhood and Education sector. It also reinforced my belief in the importance of our mission and gave me renewed motivation to scale our products and make a difference in the industry.”

Beyond the products and solutions offered by Divergent Education, Cheyanne is deeply committed to advocacy work aimed at improving the conditions of the ECEC sector and recently had the privilege of contributing to the Productivity Commission’s inquiry on Early Childhood Education. Cheyanne spoke at the inquiry and her insights were referenced in the final report, a recognition that her expertise is shaping broader policy discussions.

Additionally, Divergent Education advocated for better pay and conditions for Early Childhood Education professionals by contributing to the Fair Work Gender Undervaluation Review, which includes The Children’s Services Award.

“Divergent Education is not just about solving problems, but creating long-term, meaningful change in Education,” concluded Cheyanne.
