  1. How did your startup/business journey begin?

I've always been a writer, in one capacity or another. But my journey as a freelance copywriter started 4 years ago, when my wife was offered the chance to teach English in Japan. We jumped at the chance, and moved our comfortable life to Sasayama, a little town in the Japanese countryside.

I needed to work too, so my boss at the time put me onto freelance job websites (Upwork in particular). Thanks to these forums, I was able to take the writing skills I'd learned in my previous roles and turn them into my own business endeavour, and helping clients create their own unique brand voice.

I started off writing at a little table in a tiny kitchen, looking out at the changing seasons, and building my business remotely. Two years later, when the time came to move back to Australia, I began reaching out to local contacts and clients and started to grow my business back in Perth.

  1. What are you working on at the moment?

Interestingly, business hasn't slowed down too much, despite everything that's happening in the world at the moment—it's just shifted focus. I'm currently working on a number of fantastic projects with some amazing clients, a few of which include: an electric bike brand, a local vet chain, an international payment platform, and a couple of financial advice firms. It's a fun mix.

  1. What do you love about being a part of the Spacecubed community?

I love the mix of people, projects, businesses, and viewpoints that you get within the community. I've spoken to a range of really interesting, passionate people, across a huge range of industries. And being part of the Spacecubed community means you're able to keep in touch easily with these contacts, and see their progress.

  1. Can you share with us one of your favourite success stories?

One of my favourite success stories is one of my current clients, Sage Vets. They're a local vet chain south of the river. I was contacted by this client in my first year of running the business, and we've been working together ever since. We've built a strong relationship together, they've been on the journey with me as my business has grown, and we're currently going through a second brand refresh together.

  1. What do you hope to achieve in 2020?

2020 has given us all a lot to think about, I reckon. While my immediate focus is on helping my current clients through this time, my aim for 2020 is to keep building my business, and grow a strong client base of brands and companies who want to tell their story, their way, in their unique voice. And I also want to help other Spacecubed community members do the same.
