The much loved Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the very basics of founding startups and launching successful business ventures.

This will be the 9th Startup Weekend to grace Perth, and this rounds event promises to be the biggest Startup Weekend yet. In a year where we’ve seen record attendances at hackathons including GovHack 2016, Startup Weekend round one in April and to Mindhack, Australia’s first mental health hackathon, we're anticipating our most productive Startup Weekend yet.

How it works

Upon arrival to the event, individuals pitch their business ideas to an audience of participants, which in turn decipher which idea they would like to be part of and back. Teams are then formed out of the initial pitch followed by networking, and then it’s all action stations.

Across the 54-hour weekend, teams will take part in a frantic race against the clock, creating business models, coding, designing and market research/validation.

The weekend culminates with final presentations of team’s business

ideas in front of local entrepreneurial leaders - each presentation is critiqued by people who have been on the broader startup journey.

“After seeing over 100 attendees in April’s Startup Weekend, we’re anticipating Startup Weekend 9 to be even better and even bigger,” said Spacecubed’s Events Coordinator Kate Kirwin.

“The quality is increasing all the time, last time’s winner was a startup called Chatm8 who developed a platform to connect Australian tutors to students in China on the same time zone looking to learn English, Startup Weekend breeds creativity and clever solutions and we’re excited,” she concluded.

Whether you’re a designer, marketer, techie, working in government, Startup Weekend is an event for everyone. Come along to develop a business idea, learn to solve complex problems, learn how to launch a startup, meet a co-founder, or even just simply to meet new people - this event is one of the funnest and engaging ways to get into the world of entrepreneurs.
