With extensive experience across government and private sector roles in Australia and New Zealand, Richard Wallis helps businesses navigate the complex process of bringing chemical-based products to market safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulations.

In 2023, Richard established Arcadian Chemical Consulting and became a member at the Western Sydney Startup Hub to focus on supporting businesses and individuals to access regulated markets, promote safe use, and deliver compliance for their chemical products.

We recently sat down with Richard to learn more about his work and why the Western Sydney Startup Hub provides the ideal environment for him to thrive.

“Chemical products are used widely throughout Australia and New Zealand in a large array of applications,” Richard told us.

As a result, there are a significant number of laws and regulations that apply to chemicals so that the risks they pose to health and the environment can be safely managed. “Arcadian Chemical Consulting has a strong understanding of this regulatory landscape.”

Arcadian's expertise spans a wide range of product categories, including healthcare, complementary medicines, and cosmetics.

Recently, the consultancy has successfully completed healthcare projects to enable market access of products used for infection control in hospitals, such as hard surface disinfectants and hand sanitisers.

Compliance reviews have also been carried out across a range of complementary medicines, including vitamin and mineral supplements, probiotics, as well as herbal and aromatherapy blends. In addition, ingredient assessments for personal care and cosmetic products ensure that each component is approved for use and complies with local regulatory requirements.

By combining deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of local legislation, the consultancy supports clients in promoting safe product use, achieving regulatory compliance, and successfully entering new markets.

Richard is currently on a Coworking Lite membership and thoroughly enjoys working out of the Western Sydney Startup Hub, with plans to upgrade his membership to use the space more often as his business grows.

As a Western Sydney local, Richard loves the ease of accessing the space. “WSSH is at a great location within the historic North Parramatta precinct, and with the Light Rail now operating, it is even more accessible.”

Richard has discovered that the Western Sydney Startup Hub offers more than just a desk to work at, as the sense of community sets it apart from other coworking spaces.

“All the features of a modern office are provided but it is the collegiality of coworkers and WSSH staff that I find most enjoyable. The conversations that are struck by just being in the same space are always interesting and often a great opportunity to learn new ideas and fresh perspectives,” he shared.

Richard continues to invest in professional development, recently achieving consulting membership with the Association of Therapeutic Goods Consultants, as well as full membership with the Australasian Institute of Dangerous Goods Consultants (AIDGC).

“Spacecubed staff were very helpful in this respect as I sat the open book AIDGC exam at WSSH,” shared Richard, and this year he intends to sit further exams at WSSH for additional AIDGC qualifications.

Richard is interested to get to know new faces around the space, attend more community events and connect with anyone who may benefit from regulatory guidance.

“If any of the Spacecubed community, or their connections, want to get involved or have a question about the consultancy or the services provided they can contact me directly via my details in the Spacecubed Members Directory or on Linkedin,” concluded Richard.
