As Akora continues to grow, the team was looking to bring structure and maturity to the business in order to stay at the forefront of the industry and find solutions for issues owners and tenants are facing. Which is where Plus Eight came in.
When speaking with Barkley about how his journey began, he said it all started when he was having a beer in the Pilbara desert with friend and now Product Manager, Farai.
“We’d spoken before about each of our ambitions to build our own businesses but this night in particular we were speaking of how poor our recent experience of buying our first properties had been. We dug deeper and realised how broken the industry is, a few months later we got our first software developer on and we had started building the foundations for what Akora's residential property management product is now.”
“For us, Plus Eight was a no-brainer. We were at a stage where we had just launched our first product but we were in desperate need to bring structure and maturity to the early stages of our business. Plus Eight had experienced mentors, masterclasses on topics we had no experience in and a clear path for us to get Akora investor ready.” Barkley shares.
He continues, “On top of that was the community, to surround ourselves with driven and talented individuals on their own journeys so we could learn as well as teach what we knew and drive the Perth start-up ecosystem forward.”
