Kaizen West Member Spotlight: How AchieveAble is Making Maths Click for Aussie Kids

Written by Lauren Quinn | Apr 14, 2026 12:05:58 AM

At Kaizen West, powered by Spacecubed, we love celebrating the members building something meaningful, and Christian Bien, founder of AchieveAble, is doing exactly that.

Christian’s story starts long before any startup. Growing up as the child of Vietnamese boat refugees, education wasn’t just encouraged in his household, it was everything. “My dad was a maths teacher back in Vietnam and would always tutor us after school,” he shares. That grounding led him to graduate as one of WA’s top high school achievers, earn a scholarship to Curtin University, and go on to become a Chartered Accountant.

But after years in corporate, something was pulling him in a different direction. A scholarship to the University of Melbourne gave him the space to explore it. “I studied entrepreneurship with a focus on creating AchieveAble and a goal to support the 1 in 3 Aussie kids that struggle with maths.”

"The idea is simple but powerful: kids learn better when they’re engaged. AchieveAble’s game show practice method turns what can feel like a chore into something genuinely fun maths practice. “Sorry dad!” Christian laughs, nodding to those long after-school dining table maths sessions.

Finding Home at Kaizen West

For Christian, the move to West Perth was a deliberate one. “After years in Melbourne and Perth CBD’s, I knew I wanted to be close enough for meetings without being swallowed by the noise. West Perth hit that sweet spot perfectly.”

What he found at Kaizen West was more than just a desk. “It’s large enough to have everything you need, but small enough that you actually get to know the people around you. Some of my best conversations have happened naturally around the hub and the coffee machine, which makes very good coffee I might add.”

Working with the Next Generation

At the heart of AchieveAble is a genuine belief that young people deserve to be heard. At the start of every tutoring session, Christian’s team spends five minutes simply connecting with students, asking how they’re feeling, what excites them, what’s challenging them. “It’s simple, but building a trusting coaching relationship can lead to large learning dividends.”

Looking ahead, Christian is hopeful about what AI means for the next generation, not as a replacement for human connection, but as a way to amplify it. “My hope is that we will see the next generation harness what makes us more human. Focusing on creativity, experimentation, and exploring the unknown.”

AchieveAble is now open to the public. If you’re a parent looking for maths tutoring that actually engages your child, visit achieveable.au or reach out to Christian directly at christian@achieveable.au.
