Spacecubed is excited to continue its partnership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2024 as we welcome new Chartered Accountant, Kieran Hutcheson, Director of Taurus, who will be joining the Spacecubed community for the next few months.

The CA Catalyst in Residence Program has successfully run at Spacecubed over the past few years, and also runs throughout Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Adelaide as it works to immerse CAs into the world of business and innovation.

Kieran is excited to join the Spacecubed community, as he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. He founded Taurus Advisory in May 2023 after serving over a decade as a Chartered Accountant in Public Practice covering everything from individual tax returns through to virtual CFO duties, financial modelling, financial management and tax advice for large private companies and family groups.

When asked what led him to his career as a Chartered Accountant, Kieran shared, “I grew up in regional WA and it was always interesting watching accountants come and visit family businesses and give advice around the kitchen table. Particularly watching the many different types of advice they could give and how trusted they were.”

“It’s that trusted relationship where you ride the ups and downs with businesses and people that drew me to the profession.” He added.

When asked what some of his favourite success stories are, he shared, “assisting some good friends build a participant focussed NDIS business from the ground up, working for two years with no income to develop a platform and turning it into a 7 figure turnover in under 5 years has been pretty special.”

During his residency at Spacecubed, Kieran will actively participate in community activities, fostering connections with Spacecubed members and startups spanning various industries. He'll leverage programs and initiatives like our Office Hours program, providing founders with valuable access to industry professionals through 15-minute one-on-one meetings.

Discussing what he’s most looking forward to during his time at Spacecubed, Kieran shared, ”I’m really looking forward to the social side of business, meeting people, discussing their ideas, their pain points and purpose. Once you have a personal connection with these factors it makes providing (and receiving) advice much easier and more valuable for both parties.”

When asked why he believes it’s important for startup founders to connect with industry professionals and mentors, Kieran shared the following.

“The saying ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’ comes to mind. When you engage with an experienced professional you are drawing upon years of training, advice, successes, and failures that they have experienced.”

“The most valuable outcomes from professional mentoring often come from issues that haven’t been considered by a founder, but identified by a professional. In running my own business I also know how important it is to have a trusted professional to bounce ideas off, and often just ask for a sanity check to assist with business decisions.” He concluded.

During his residency at Spacecubed, Kieran immersed himself in our community by mentoring startups through our Office Hours program, acting as a judge for the City of Joondalup Startup Weekend, and leading masterclasses for both the City of Joondalup Pre-Accelerator program and our Spacecubed members. His involvement and expertise was able to greatly enrich our entrepreneurial ecosystem.
